As part of the commemorative events marking the 50th anniversary of ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation, ASEAN-Japan Centre (AJC) co-organized the “Creative and Sustainable Economy Through Innovation” event with the Philippine Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Philippine Trade and Investment Center (PTIC) in Tokyo.
This significant event was honored by the presence of H.E. President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. and also the First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos. In his keynote speech, President Marcos highlighted the critical role of the Philippines` Creative Economy in driving sustainable economic growth. He also extended his gratitude to AJC for its steadfast support of the Philippines. The event was a vibrant showcase of the Philippines – Japan collaborative projects, featuring the various fields of circular economy, textile development, fashion, design services, animation, and game development. They explored indigenous materials and design combined with SDGs oriented and innovation-based platforms while seeking possible collaborations with Japan to explore and enhance commercial potentials of the Philippines` products and services in the Japanese market.
Reaffirmation of the Philippines’ strategic policy to achieve the creative and sustainable economy by its high quality and design
The event proved that the Philippines and its creative economy is a strong advocate of SDGs, through products exhibited, fashion show, and speeches by key speakers. The event also gained widespread media attention.
Fusion of Philippine and Japanese technology will contribute to SDGs
The unique collaborations between Philippine and Japanese food, textile, game development and animation will contribute to fostering a creative and sustainable economy in line with the SDGs. For example, the contemporary and traditional attires with indigenous fibers blended with traceable Japanese textile and a modern kimono entirely fabricated by banana fibers from the Philippines showcased during the fashion show intrigued guests attending the event. Matcha and Hojicha of Japan blended with Philippine cacao was another good example on display showing a melting pot of collaboration between the two nations.
ASEAN-Japan Centre will continue working with the Philippine Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Philippine Trade and Investment Center (PTIC)-Tokyo to continue developing collaborations between the two nations. Overall, AJC will be one of the drivers to further the vision of economic co-creation into co-implementation between ASEAN countries and Japan whilst being conscious of the social and environmental impacts to the society.
