The ASEAN-Japan Centre & FTA Promotion
The ASEAN Japan Centre (AJC)’s “ASEAN-Japan Trade Insights” is a seminar series conducted in major trade-oriented ASEAN Member States to promote the utilization of Free Trade Agreements.
Having previously held an FTA seminar in Hanoi, Viet Nam – with this instalment, AJC targets mainly Japanese MSMEs in Thailand and local Thai MSMEs.
Following the implementation of Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) agreement in January 2022, there has been an increase in companies seeking to utilize FTAs. However, it is noted that there are three “barriers” (Knowledge, Process, and Internal cooperation) that small and medium sized Japanese companies face when trying to apply for FTAs (METI 2022). Similar challenges are believed to arise among SMEs in ASEAN. To further promote open and free trade, investment expansion, and economic integration in the ASEAN region, greater utilization of FTAs is needed.
The workshop is part of AJC’s ongoing commitment to conduct projects consistent with the needs and demands of the ASEAN business sectors by collaborating with regional experts, in conjunction with ASEAN governments and economic organizations.
